Yogi Mahila Kendra regularly conducts various activities for empowering women, which include a project named “Learn & Earn” to make women financially independent by teaching them different arts and also how to make their professional use.
The pickles, due to their unique taste, occupy a special place in Indian foods to increase the taste of whole meal but, to prepare them tasty and lasting for at least one full year, demands a special skill and every woman doesn’t possess it and when, the class of working woman goes on increasing nowadays, it becomes difficult for them to spare time to prepare them so, if the poor and needy women are taught to prepare different pickles, it can provide a source of income for their family with this art.
Keeping all these facts in mind, the sadhvi sisters from the institution had taught, nearly 240 ladies to prepare different types of tasty pickles using various spices, in Jay-Vijay Farm at Kankot village near Rajkot on Wednesday, the 8th February 2017 in “Pickle Making Workshop” in which, as per the running season, they were, with practical demonstration, taught to prepare salad of red chilies, mixed vegetable pickle of carrot-turmeric-zedoary turmeric-lemon prepared in the boiled syrup and also the Punjabi pickle, and the pickles made from gunda-mango, boiled gunda, kerada, dara-garmar, pickle with dry-fruits, murabbo from mango, molasses-mango, chhundo etc. and had also informed them about the precaution to be taken while preparing them, how to ripen them in sun and shades and how to preserve them without using any kind of preservative but only with sugar and salt, they had also explained how to choose the gunda, mangoes, carrots etc. to be used for pickles and that, even if a slightest water or dampness remains, it gets spoiled so, warned to be cautious about this thing also and to keep them in totally dry glass vessels to keep them for long time.
Thus, sadhvi sisters had taught the lady participants to create a source of their income with a very small investment to be self-reliant.
Along with the regional sadhvi sisters of Yogi Mahila Kendra from Rajkot P. Sahajikben, P. Subodhben and P. Sukhcharanben, the lady volunteers from the institution also had remained present in the workshop.
At the end of the workshop, all the participating ladies had termed this workshop as very useful for all of them and highly appreciating it, had informed that, during the running season only, they will prepare the different pickles as taught here and take the professional benefit of it.
