On Friday, the 3rd July 2015, Yogi Mahila Kendra, Haridham, Sokhada had organized a workshop for ladies between 3.30 pm & 6.00 pm in the evening at 12, Vallabhkunj Society, Near Mahaprabhuji’s Bethak, Naroda, Ahmedabad for making rakhis (rakhadis) at which, P. Suvasitben, who specially came from Haridham, Sokhada, had taught to nearly 70 ladies present there to make rakhis of different types.

The festival of Rakshabandhan in Hindu religion is a day to express/exhibit the innocent pure love between the brothers and the sisters when, every sister ties a rakhi on the wrist of her brother and wishes/prays for his total safety. Only for this day in the entire year, there remains a great demand for rakhis. Hence, if the ladies are taught to make rakhis, they can have a source of an income. Keeping this noble view in the mind, the sisters of Yogi Mahila Kendra had organized this workshop of making rakhis.

P. Suvasitben, who came from Yogi Mahila Kendra, Haridham, Sokhada had taught all the participants to make the rakhis while, P. Sukhcharanben, P. Shahidben and P. Sharanyaben who also came with her, had helped in practical demonstration of this art. P. Suvasitben had taught how to make rakhis from colorful threads as well as different types of rakhis from pearls, rudraksha, wool, thermocol, para and swastic etc. and, it was also explained as to how to decorate and pack them for sale in the market.

All the ladies felt self-satisfaction for having learnt to make rakhis themselves while a few from the economically weak families found a new source for making some additional income for their families and achieve stability by using it on professional basis .
